The drm was made to protect spirites that the leemena developer didn't even own. Shame that a great fangame is ruined with malicious DRM just to prevent the so-called "stealing from the fangame creator himself". Basically the sonic gather battle malware was a drm that basically gets your ip and accesses your registry editor when you first download.
